Caffe Nero – Stockholm (Vasastaden)

Reviewed on January 6th, 2011 by Dina

First thing that I have to say is that this Caffe Nero is not the same as the chain of Caffe Nero’s that we have in the UK! It has the same name but that’s where all the similarities stop!

On display were the colourful range of pastries and sweet things, all of which looked very tempting! If sweet food is not up your street, then there are ready prepared sandwiches in the counter fridge. These could be toasted and they had various fillings which looked fresh!

We were looking at what we thought were cakes/eclairs in one of the glass cabinets. But when it came to ordering, the staff told us that these cakes were actually frozen desserts. So that narrowed down our choices, but we still had a lot that we could choose from!

Tea was a perfect way to start the day! Caffe Nero had red, green and black tea, so I had the caffeine free red tea! It was served by the cup with fresh tea leaves. I was glad that I was given a large cup!

Caffe Nero had a range of mini pastries, biscuits and the like! Instead of going for one pastry, I had a couple of items! One was a cylindrical biscuit covered in chopped nuts and a creamy hazelnut filling. The biscuit was not too crisp and not too soft either; just very yummy!

My second delight was a mini apricot tart. I wasn’t a big fan of this item as the layer of jam was too thick. Even though it was small, a couple of bites was enough for me.

At first when we walked into Caffe Nero, it looked like it only had the few seats at the front. But then, as we walked further by the counter, we saw that the seating area extended round to the back, so that the counter actually became the centre of the cafe! Each area had different coloured seats!

Caffe Nero had a relaxed atmosphere and the staff were nice! They gave service with a smile. One thing was that there was no visible menu for the drinks. It would also have been better if all the food had been covered or had been behind the counter, as some of it was and some of it wasn’t.

Teaopia – Mississauga, Canada

Usually, I don’t review take away coffee/tea shops. But I was so impressed with Teaopia, that I felt that it deserved to be reviewed!

Teaopia is a tea shop with a section that sells take away teas. They had a range of teas and I was interested by the tea cocktails. These were hot drinks and came in just one size. The regular size drink was like a medium sized drink from most other tea shops!

The staff were friendly and took their time in explaining which teas had syrups added to them. They also went through the ingredients for the various cocktails!

The green tea latte was absolutely perfect. I could have it made with soya milk which was even better. There was no syrup in this drink; it was purely brewed green tea and hot steamed soya milk.

The other drink that we had was the chai. Again, we were impressed with the flavours of the tea. We could tell that the tea had been brewed from fresh tea leaves and not from tea bags. The chai had a good spicy flavour!

It is a shame that there was not a sit down area in Teaopia to enjoy the hot drinks. It was tempting to buy a lot of the tea leaves to take home! One thing that we did buy though was their wild clover honey. It was pure honey and we could definitely taste its high quality!

Cafe De La Paix – Chelsea

If you want a good range of teas and hot drinks, then Cafe De La Paix is right up your street! They have the regular tea bag teas, herbal teas, coffees, soy milk, but they also have a few extra special teas!

It was difficult to decide between the chai tea and the mint tea and I eventually decided on the latter! The mint tea did not disappoint; it was fresh mint leaves served with a couple of red berries in the glass!

If you are a fan of ginger, then I would recommend the ginger and lemon tea. This drink has big thick slices of ginger and chunks of lemon. I’ve never seen so much ginger in a drink, but then again, I’m not a huge ginger tea drinker! This ginger drink was sweetened with honey!

Cafe De La Paix does a range of sandwiches, cakes, pastries, soups, and pasta dishes too. The staff were friendly and fairly relaxed. The cafe dining area was ok but some of the tables were a little too close together. It was quite a busy cafe though!
