Salts Diner – Saltaire

Often when things are on your doorstep, then for some reason, you don’t visit them. This was the case with Salts Diner located in Salts Mill.

It’s always great to have the quality time out with my dad. This time we thought that we may as well stay local and hence headed down to Salts Diner.

A late Sunday afternoon lunch meant that Salts Diner was busy but not heaving. The specials on the menu sounded great and the fish dish was the one that my dad chose.

The grilled salmon meal really impressed my dad. The salmon fillet came perfectly grilled with a crispy skin and soft succulent flaky pink flesh. The fish was on a mixed bean cassoulet with pesto. The food was of a high quality. The mixed bean cassoulet had a lovely tomato richness and a slight sweetness to it.

The soup of the day was pea and mint. This was a medium sized bowl of soup and came with a brown bread roll. The taste of the peas was good and even the mint flavour came through.

Colourful chairs, round tables, lots of light, and David Hockney’s artwork decorates Salts Diner. There is quite a lot of seating and there is also an additional section at one end. Salts Diner has an open kitchen towards the far end, which is nice to be able to see the chefs at work.

After enjoying our time at Salts Diner, we have returned back to it on several occasions. The soup is always enjoyable and the carrot and courgette soup combination worked well together. The margherita  pizza was fresh and the base was cooked well.

The staff always give service with a smile and are efficient. There was one time when we had ordered the garlic bread provencal. It came with the base really overcooked. As soon as we mentioned this to the staff, they apologized and swiftly took it away. After a short time, we were then given a fresh garlic bread. The staff did not make any fuss about it and they made us feel comfortable.

After being fed well in Salts Diner, there is always energy to explore the other areas of Salts Mill. An interesting part of the mill is the Saltaire History Exhibition and also the 1853 Gallery on the ground floor.
