The Old Loom Mill, Tea Room – Hailsham

Hailsham is home to my favourite caravan park and camping site, Peel House Farm and it was while visiting friends there, taking a stroll together along the Cuckoo Trail that I discovered The Old Loom Mill tea room and crafts centre.

On this visit I had the egg and tomato sandwich with a coffee.  During previous visits I’ve tried their jacket potatoes, afternoon teas and even their delicious cheese with beans on toast.  The food and the service have always been good here, but the prices seem a little high for what you get (imho).  It’s okay for a one off every now and then, but I couldn’t justify eating here more than once a week. Which is a real shame as it’s only 2 minutes walk from the campsite I stay on and I really do like their cheese with beans on toast.

It’s also worth visiting for the arts and crafts centre, where you can purchase hand made gifts, knitting wool and discounted fabrics.  They also offer free parking and open gate for all visitors to the Cuckoo Trail.  Subject to opening times of course.

Unfortunately this cafe is being knocked down to make way for a new housing estate. It’s a tough time for the people who used to run their arts and crafts shops here. My heart goes out to them all.
