Las Iguanas – The O2 Greenwich

We initially came to this Latin American restaurant for coffee but then ended up returning to it later in the day for an evening meal. Its nice that the restaurant is divided into sections: one part for the restaurant and the other part with comfy seats for drinks.

The latte and mocha drinks were really good. The mocha actually tasted more like a hot chocolate. We had the chunky cassava wedges as a snack. Although it looked like a small portion, it was enough. They had the right crunchiness on the outside with a soft centre.

The roast butternut squash and coconut milk soup was a rich soup and was just right for a cold winter’s day. I could taste the spiciness of the chilli in it. A good alternative was the chicken fajita wrap that was served with curly fries. The chicken was tender and tasted good with the additional filling of peppers, onion and cheese.

To complete the meal, a dessert had to be had. We shared the chocolate banoffee pie. This was an excellent choice and had the perfect proportions of chocolate, biscuit, banana and toffee.

I do have to comment on the fantastic customer service and the efficiency of all the staff at the restaurant. The restaurant was very busy in the evening and we were thinking that the service was going to be quite slow. This was not the case. The food was brought out not long after we had ordered and we weren’t waiting around for the bill either.

A fantastic restaurant with lively Latin American music and atmosphere. A highly recommended restaurant if you are at the O2 Arena.

We recently returned to the Royal Festival Hall branch of Las Iguanas and were pleasantly surprised with the whole experience.

We had not made a reservation and was told that the waiting time for a table would be about twenty minutes. After waiting about ten minutes, we were given a table in the requested downstairs part of the restaurant.

The reason the downstairs seating area was preferred was because the upstairs is part of the bar and can be quite noisy. So not a good place to have the meal if you want to be able to chat without having to raise your voice!!!

The service this time was good! Our waiter was so friendly and efficient too. I was surprised that we didn't have to wait long for our food to be served.

I can't complain at all about the food; it was so tasty and again of good quality. I had the butternut squash, spinach and chickpea enchilada. I asked if the cheese, tomato and chilli sauce and the sour cream could be put on the side instead of smothered all over the tortilla wrap.

The waiter put this request to the kitchen and I was impressed with my dish! The wrap was served on a mound of rice, surrounded by refried beans and three little pots had the toppings in them!

So, it looks like we may have just been a little unlucky with the first time we visited this Las Iguanas branch and had the bad service. Hopefully, the experience this time round is more of a true reflection of how Las Iguanas is!

I have also been to the Las Iguanas branch situated by the Royal Festival Hall in London. The food was again to a high standard but the service was really bad.

We had only ordered a couple of the tapas dishes and a couple of desserts. Even though we had told the staff that we were in a hurry and needed to leave the restaurant within the hour, they did not make the effort to bring out the food quickly. We asked the staff many a time how long the food was going to be and everytime, the answer was "It will be with you in the next couple of minutes".

We ended up waiting for over 30 minutes for the food and also a long time to get the bill.
