Hidden away at the Hornsey end of Marlborough Road this is a cute little cafe. Serving teas, coffees, sandwiches and cakes. There are some very interesting works of art on the walls and the owners seem friendly enough. Football fans will be pleased to hear that Libertea is only a short bus journey from the Arsenal football stadium (maybe!)

Nice place for breakfast or lunch or just a relaxing coffee. Plenty of space for baby buggies but we’ve not seen many babies there. Good service and helpful staff – we’ve always found them to be warm, polite and friendly. Good coffee. Fresh orange juice. Great baguettes (the avocado is always perfect) and unusual delicious cooked dishes.
We like to take our grandchildren in the school holidays – small but exciting playground nearby.
Terrible service , if you ask a question staff get very aggressive. Dianne behind the counter is VERY rude.
LB – Egg and chip style cafe or not (that's not even a real definition if you think about it), in my opinion Hamlets feels more like a proper cafe, with a good selection of FRESH food to suit more tastes than Libertea..
After my initial review of Libertea the owner barely gives me a nod these days, let alone acknowledges when I say hello, her staff are always happy to say hi though. I found the atmosphere a little tense at times, my last few visits involved me having to sit through the staff arguing and bickering over irrelevant stuff.
RE: Lee – Hamlet’s is an egg and chip style cafe nonetheless, they just also do the dishes you mention…
David has a point. It is surprising to find a place like Libertea so close to the Hornsey Road. A little haven.
Hornsey Road has more than just egg and chips style cafes.. Hamlet's for example offer a wide selection of freshly cooked-to-order meals, including vegetarian options, sandwiches and pasta dishes.
My studio is in the commercial units behind Libertea – it is no exageration to say that this little gem of a cafe makes such a difference to life in this small artistic community. Not only is the food fresh and tasty but just a little bit different from anything else available in the area. If you want egg and chips then go up the hornsey road, but if you want heathly home cooked food with a french feel then go and see Diane. My fave is the warm baguette filled with mozzerella, avocado and sun dried tomato – or maybe the lentils, beans and cous cous.
My clients appreciate the care and attention given by Diane and her team, the organic earl gray tea goes down very well – as does the chocolate cake :-). The cafe provides a great meeting point for my clients and a level of sophistication that is more usually found in Highgate village or Upper Street Isligton.
Libertea gets 5*’s from me.
Libertea offers a large variety of green, black, white and herbal teas , when you get there try the Moroccan mint tea, its one of the best and refreshing tea have ever had.
My partner had one of their home made dishes (chicken tikka) and loved it so much we decided to take some home. A must try out place!
Libertea is a haven with its sultry jazz and blues, home-cooked dishes, modern, but comfortable and stylish motif and the best coffee one can find in the uk. WELL WORTH DISCOVERING! oh, i suppose i should not really offer these comments to the public as it is now a very calm and delightful spot… get there before it gets too mad lol
I liked the red and black theme that runs through this cafe. It has a couple of comfy seats near the entrance. I think that it would be better if it had additional sofas and if they were away from the door area (to keep away from the draft).
