Trunk Lounge – Bramhall, Stockport

on

You know when you walk into a place and just stop for a second? That’s Trunk. From the outside, it’s pretty unassuming, but inside? Wow. It’s one of those rare spots that’s genuinely fun to look at. We’re talking bold floral wallpaper everywhere, big trailing plants, fairy lights, rattan lamps, the works. And the seating? A mix of leather armchairs and rainbow velvet banquettes in burnt orange, deep red, forest green. There are rope dividers, old suitcases stacked up, it’s got this bohemian, globe-trotter feel that somehow manages to be both cosy and buzzing at the same time.  Perfect for a lazy lunch with mates or just grabbing a window seat by yourself and watching the world go by.

The Food

It’s Spanish-inspired tapas with a decent grill section. Think hefty bocadillos (the Italian meatball sub is a winner), lighter bites, grilled meats, and paella. They’re good at labelling veggie and gluten-free options too. Worth knowing: there’s a £15.50 lunch deal Monday to Friday, and a “3 for £12” tapas offer on Tuesdays. Portions are generous for the price.

What We Had

Everything comes out in little black cast-iron skillets, which just fits the whole sharing vibe. The highlights:

  • Creamy mushrooms – silky, rich sauce, loads of parsley and black pepper. Total comfort food.
  • Tuscan meatballs – big, juicy, in a bright herby tomato sauce. Classic done right.
  • Piri-piri chicken skewers – lovely char on the chicken, sticky spicy orange sauce, and a cool creamy dip on the side. Proper moreish.
  • Chips with aioli – thick-cut golden fries smothered in a herby white sauce. Simple but perfect.

Verdict

Trunk is exactly what you want from a neighbourhood tapas spot. Great energy, good sharing plates, and the kind of room that makes you want to stay a while. The decor steals the show—it’s bold, colourful, made for photos—but the food holds its own: comforting, generous, and full of flavour without trying too hard.

Would I go back? 100%. Especially on a Tuesday for that tapas deal, or for a long, lazy lunch with friends. Great for groups, casual dates, or anyone after a spot with real character.

Bottom line: loads of personality, good value, solid tasty plates. A proper local gem.
