A gelato a day is a must when in Italy and especially on a hot day spent in Venice. Getting to experience the wonderful canal ways of Venice by a relaxing gondola ride will always be memorable. A nice wonder around the Canneregio area with gelato in hand was lovely. It was calmer in this area compared to the popular Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco. As gelato can’t quite be called a proper meal, we returned to the trusted food area of Quadrilatero in Bologna for dinner.
With an array of restaurants to choose from in the Quadrilatero area, on this day Aroma was chosen. It is a small eatery and we chose to sit outdoors. The restaurants in this line are close together and so is the seating area outside.
Pasta felt right for this evening. The simple Pasta al Pomodoro was supposed to be made with spaghetti. But Aroma had run out of spaghetti, so it was made with tagliatelle. Just the right amount of tomato sauce coated the tagliatelle and extra sauce topped the pasta. There was good flavour to the Pasta al Pomodoro.
The Cannelloni was a couple of big fresh pasta tubes generously filled with spinach and ricotta. The cannelloni was covered in the classic tomato sauce and lots of grated Parmesan. The creamy combination of the ricotta and spinach contrasted well with the tomato sauce. The tomatoes gave freshness to the dish.
Layers of fried aubergine, tomato sauce, Parmesan and mozzarella made up the baked Parmigiana Melanzane. This hearty dish was delicious and very moreish. The aubergine was cooked perfectly so that it was soft and tender.
A basket of thin crispy bread with rosemary was served as part of the meal. The bread was slightly dry and chewy. The staff were efficient and gave good service.
Aroma does great classic dishes and the portion size is just right. The dinner was tasty. The simplicity of each dish made the flavours of the ingredients shine through.
