Hitchin Lavender Tea Room – Hitchin

Every year, the lavender season seems to be missed even though it is in the summer months. This year, a conscious effort was made to make this outing to the Hitchin Lavender fields.

Cadwell Farm has 60 different varieties of lavender and a different area for the wildflowers and giant sunflowers. The lavender fields are simply gorgeous with shades of purple and lilac as far as the eye can see. A day out picking lavender and being among the sunflowers definitely brings added sunshine to the day.

Adjacent to the fields is the Hitchin Lavender Tea Room. The barn has the Tea Room and the Farm Shop. There is plenty of seating indoors and also an outdoor area. The Tea Room serves soup, quiches, baked potatoes, hot ciabattas, sandwiches, hot and cold drinks. For the sweet toothed, there are scones with lavender jam, cakes including gluten free ones and ice creams, again a variety with lavender. The cakes along the counter area were all in covered cases.

The latte and the decaffeinated coffee were both good. It was nice that it came with a little biscuit on the side. The coffee was served with a little jug of milk.

The staff at Hitchin Lavender Tea Room were friendly. There were quite a few times when the staff were wondering around the outdoor tables looking to give the tea, scones and cakes to the correct customers. Whilst we were there, we were asked a few times if we had ordered cakes and scones. The tables, especially the outdoor ones, could have been tidied and cleaned up as soon as the customers had vacated.

In case you hadn’t had your fill of the relaxing lavender from the fields, the Farm Shop sells the lavender based products, soaps, creams, honey, oils, cushions and homewares.
