Castle Cottage Tearoom – Pevensey

A friend I’m staying with in Hankham recommended having lunch at Castle Cottage Tearoom, located alongside the ancient walls of Pevensey Castle.

Walking into this tearoom felt like stepping back in time to the 30’s and 40’s. It reminded me of a better more calmer England, before video games and mobile phones. Not that I was even born back then, but my grandparents certainly thought those were the good old days and that’s good enough for me.

The food menu consisted of afternoon teas, sandwiches and soups. I had the cheese, tomato and ham toasted sandwich with a latte. The presentation was good and the service first class. My final bill was very generous for the level of service and quality of food. This tearoom is definitely high on my list of budget places to eat out.

If you ever find yourself in Pevensey and you’re looking for somewhere quiet and relaxed to share an afternoon tea with friends or family, then I highly recommend Castle Cottage Tearoom. On hot sunny days you might also want to find a nice secluded spot for a picnic inside the Pevensey Castle grounds.
