Berto – Holloway

on

Berto has a separate entrance to its sister restaurant next door, Zia Luca. They are connected inside and Zia Luca’s pizza oven can be seen from the dining area of Berto.

Fresh pasta that is made in house everyday is on offer at Berto. The chefs can be seen making all of the dishes in the open kitchen. The staff are welcoming and friendly and are happy to suggest dishes.

There is a rustic feel to Berto’s decor teamed with modernness. The bar area is distinguished by the shelves filled with the colourful wine bottles and drinks cans. This area has exposed brickwork.

The dining area is spacious and there are a few high seats at the kitchen counter. The restaurant is light and airy with the cheery music playing in the background at just the right level. Extra sunshine is brought to the meal with Berto’s bespoke colourful plates.

The Maccheroni Alla Nerano was ordered. This was pasta combined with courgette cream, Parmesan, basil and topped with courgette fries. Different pasta types can be changed for each dish but the chosen dish was had with the pasta that it was made for.

The maccheroni was a vegan pasta made with just wheat flour and water. The creamy courgette cream sauce coated the pasta tubes well. Having the fried courgette thins, a sprinkling of Parmesan and fresh basil made the dish complete. There was a lovely light flavour of the courgette in the sauce. The piping hot Maccheroni Alla Nerano was a brilliant lunch to have on a chilly autumnal day.

The bonus of having Berto and Zia Luca connected means that if pizza is wanted with the meal, then it is possible to order it to go with the pasta. Berto has a great motto on the receipt which was “Life is too short for just one dough”.
