Sol e Mio – Bounds Green

Sol e Mio is a delightful cafe at the Sunshine Garden Centre. Being a bright, cheery and friendly place makes this cafe a lovely place to relax and enjoy their homemade delights. Big mirrors and specials boards hang on the walls.

As it was tea time, it gave us the chance to indulge in cake. It was great that all of the cakes were covered on the table display and also in the glass fronted display. With so much choice and even after recommendations from the Sol e Mio staff and my friend, it was a hard decision to pick the treat. From the rich caramel shortcake, lemon drizzle, cookies, cupcakes to the fruit based apple shortcake and Danishes, what to choose.

A decision was made and the apple shortcake was picked. But when chatting to the staff when ordering, she said that it was quite sweet due to the extra crunchy sugar topping. So, my mind was changed and the banana walnut cake was had instead.

The cakes were served to us first and then the drinks followed shortly after. The banana and walnut cake was a big portion. There were plenty of chunky walnuts and the banana flavour shone through. It sure was a good cake choice.

To accompany the cake, a decaf Americano was had with almond milk. The coffee was wonderful. Now onto a revelation for myself. An idea that came to me was that it maybe nice to dunk a small forkful of the cake into the coffee. It was absolutely great and I was surprised that I hadn’t thought of the coffee cake thing before this moment. Almond coffee, banana and walnuts; the combination of flavours complimented each other. Even the staff afterwards said that they would have to try it as it sounded tasty.

The staff at Sol e Mio were so polite and gave us lovely personal service. They were ever so welcoming and this helped us have a really enjoyable time at their cafe.

Sol e Mio serve savoury items such as salads, toasties, soups and also do roasts on Sundays. The range of drinks come in the form of juices, teas, coffees and hot chocolates.

If you come to the cafe in December, then have a wander around the Sunshine Garden Centre. It will make you feel festive with all their sparkly displays, sets and Christmas scenes, not to mention the range of Christmas trees as you walk to the Sol e Mio cafe.
