Granary Square Brasserie – Kings Cross

on

Granary Square Brasserie has a main dining space with a seated long bar area running the length of one of the sides of the restaurant. There is a teal green and mustard theme to the decor. The walls are decorated with framed pictures and art of plants with their botanical names. The table area is highlighted with overhead lighting and the rest of the restaurant is fairly dimly lit. There is a soft hum about the place. There is a separate room called the Sterling Room. This looked like a grand dining room with big flower arrangements, candlesticks and a big main dining table. The staff are friendly and give good service.

There is a Taste of History menu which showcases Granary Square Brasserie’s classic dishes. The starter of Wild Mushroom Soup was full of flavour and depth. A jug of soup was brought to the table and a separate bowl which contained the plant based mascarpone, pretty red amaranth and sourdough croutons. The staff poured the mushroom soup into the bowl at the table. This was a hearty and creamy soup. The tasty big chunks of sourdough croutons were a bonus addition to the soup.

The main dish was a fillet of sea bream which had been pan fried. It was on top of a generous layer of smoked aubergine puree. The dish was scattered with flaked almonds and olives. Half of a lemon was wrapped in a cheesecloth as to prevent any pips being squeezed onto the dish. There was a nice contrast of textures in this fish dish. The sea bream was delicate and sweet. The smokiness and creaminess of the aubergine puree went well with the sea bream. The plate was warm when it was served.

Granary Square Brasserie was a lovely place to come to dine out with plenty of choice on the menu. The food was of a high quality as was the service. There is an outdoors seating area full of lush greenery, overlooking the fountains in Granary Square. This would be lovely in the summer months.
